The road to St. Francisville, the River Road Highway 61 which we followed from Natchez, is lined with plantations. We were hoping to find Afton Villa. I'd found this old photo years ago in Ghosts of the Mississippi , interior staircase of the grand house which no longer stands. We read that the garden at Afton Villa is open for tours. I stopped at the local library to ask directions, but, after the little old librarian ladies drew a map and printed a google map showing a star and a road, we realized we were on the edge of closing time. Disappointing, but I found some nice Louisiana houses outside the library to photograph.
