NYR 2014

I love the clean slate and fresh start and longer perspective of the NEW YEAR - and making goals! This year, I plan to make a lot of new drawings of places I love.

I've thought carefully about the places I've loved and want to get to know better, through drawing. Places I have visited and photographed with an eye to make drawings. Drawings emblematic their unique and ubiquitous qualities and evocative of the senses they conjured in me.

London Mews

The drawing is multi-directional. I can't decide horizontal or vertical...

London Mews is part of the City Houses series - and a birthday gift for one Londoner from Baltimore.

Back to London

I'm really happy to finally be able to carve out a little time to pick up loose ends of last fall. Working on a London Mews-scape, an overdue birthday gift. I've tried to transpose sketchbook sketches made on-site several years ago to the orthagonal streetscape format, then added more buildings from photographs. I hope the hodge-podge can become a tidy, not a messy, Mews.

CITY HOUSES: no Copenhagen, no London (yet)

I did not complete five City Houses drawings, only three. The absent members of this set are Copenhagen and London. Apparently the images of the charming salvaged materials shacks along the pond in Copenhagen are only so vivid in my memory. The photographic evidence I have does not provide enough to make drawings from, unfortunately. Perhaps I will be there again.

I am still determined to draw London. The Mews, the alleys - similar to our Lanes in Savannah - where garage doors mingle with smaller dwellings. A less polished streetscape, more intimate back-door environment.
