The Washington DC Temple in the Clouds

A commission to draw the Washington DC Temple gave me an opportunity to use pencil on nice thick paper, and I really enjoyed it! I appreciated the inherent qualities of pencil in layering and shading which I did solely with vertical freehand lines in varying densities and pencil weights. The sheet size is 12" x 15".

This view, from the 495 Beltway, is so elegant as the building spires punctuate and extend so tall above the tree line. In graphite, it appears to be reaching from clouds. Heavenly.

I bet this was an exciting building to draw. It looks great....and I like your treatment of the clouds/trees!
